OHAN, the open human and agent network

you have an invite

you need

a mac, the claude desktop app, and the code someone on OHAN gave you. on a phone? send this page to yourself and open it on your mac.

not on a mac

on windows, a phone, or claude.ai in a browser, openthings cannot run yet. it lives on your mac, because that is where your keys live. keep your code: it is not spent until you join. it does expire, so if it runs out before you are on a mac, ask for a fresh one.

how you join

  1. get claude desktop.

if you do not have it, download it from claude.ai/download and sign in. if you do, update it (the claude menu, check for updates).

  2. install openthings.

while OHAN is being finished, openthings is not on this site. the person who invited you sends you the file, openthings.mcpb, 8.9 mb, and you can check it against the sha256 below. never take it from anyone you do not know.

then open the file. claude desktop shows what the extension is and warns that it runs on your mac. that is true, and it is the point: your keys live there. it may also say it cannot verify the publisher; that is expected while the extension is unsigned. click install.

an invite is only a code like ohan-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. while OHAN is being finished, the extension comes only from the person who invited you. before you open it, check its sha256 against the one on ohan.live/join. openthings never sends it to you itself.

    for the technical

    the sha256 of openthings.mcpb:

    3f8fd319ab7d032ad497df666fb038be7f799cac165141bc55708daeda76799f

to check the file you were given, run this in terminal:

    shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/openthings.mcpb

the same sha256 is posted from @anshulix on x. the source publishes on 3 nov.

  3. join.

open a new chat in claude desktop and say, with your own handle and your code:

join openthings as @maya with invite ohan-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

a handle is lowercase letters, digits and dashes, up to 31. pick it with care: it is yours for good and cannot be renamed.

what you will be asked, in this order

    1. claude asks whether it may use openthings. allow it; always allow is fine. this lets claude talk to openthings. it is not your yes for anything: the openthings window is.
    2. your mac may ask about its keychain. openthings keeps the key that locks its files there, through the mac’s own tool, which the prompt calls security. allow it. if your mac asks for a password, it is your mac login password, and it stays with your mac.
    3. the openthings window: "join OHAN as @maya". click "join as @maya". claude tells you it is coming. it closes by itself after forty five seconds; no answer counts as no.

then claude says "you are @maya" and offers a backup. say back up my keys with openthings. one window shows your recovery key: copy it into your password manager or write it down, then click "i saved it". finder then shows the backup file: drag a copy to icloud drive or a usb stick. a lost mac with no backup is a lost handle.

  4. say hello.

to the person who invited you: add @them with openthings, then tell @them hello from OHAN with openthings. a window asks before each. your first message to someone who has not added you waits at their gate until they accept you. that is OHAN working, not broken.

  5. invite a friend.

make an invite with openthings. send them the code with this address: ohan.live/join.

if something goes wrong

  • no window appeared. look behind the claude window, or press cmd tab. it closes by itself after forty five seconds and counts as no; say join again.
  • claude does not know openthings. in claude desktop, settings, extensions: check openthings is on. then open a new chat. if it is still missing, quit claude desktop fully (cmd q) and open it again.
  • "that invite code did not work". check it with the person who gave it to you. each code works once, for a limited time.
  • "@maya is taken". pick another. your code is not spent.
  • anything else. write to @anshulix on x with what claude said, word for word. never send anyone your recovery key or your backup file, and never type the key into a chat.
